Upon realizing that social activism is trending on her daughter Sophie’s twitter feed, local mother Vicki Shapiro has started making significant lifestyle changes in an effort to reconnect. “It used to be much easier to be a ‘cool mom.’ All I had to do was let Sophie wear makeup and go to boy-girl parties. Now she’s telling me I’m an enabler of the male gaze,” said Shapiro.
Shapiro has already made the switch to cruelty-free shampoo and non-GMO soy burgers, which she confirmed are nowhere near as good as the real thing. Still, this does not seem to be enough to impress her daughter. “I just can’t keep up with her. Last week the most important thing was having cool hair. Now she’s telling me it’s cool to care.”
In response to Vicki Shapiro’s statement, Sophie Shapiro told The Freudian Slip, “Motherhood is a social construct.” Still, Mrs. Shapiro remains optimistic. She is confident that while it is hip to care about social justice, it is even more hip to care about your parents.
Mrs. Shapiro reports that she has big plans in store. The Freudian Slip is thrilled to have the exclusive rights to Shapiro’s ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video, coming out next Tuesday.
