Clark University is pleased to announce the newest addition to its esteemed faculty: social activist Kim Davis, a former county clerk from Rowan County, Kentucky. Davis was recently hired as assistant professor in the International Development and Social Change Department.
“We are excited to have such an acclaimed activist join our great University,” Clark hiring manager Ann Impey told The Freudian Slip, “ Kim proved to us that she was a true Clarkie by challenging the conventions of the interview process. She even went so far as to refuse to issue us her resume and references. Kim will be able to excite the already socially conscious student body and inspire them to Challenge Convention too!”
Professor Davis told The Freudian Slip, “I am blessed to be given this opportunity to spread my word. Already, twelve devoted students have offered to help me teach my syllabus when I get to Clark. These twelve students will ensure that my knowledge will be spread to their fellow students and peers; though, I believe one of them will soon betray me as they showed interest in changing their major to evolutionary biology. I am coming to Clark to teach the one truth of social change, and the one way that it should be done.”
Professor Davis will be teaching higher level courses in the ID department beginning in the Spring 2015 Semester. One of the courses, which Davis says she has been teaching informally for years, is titled ID 298: Applied Methods in Bigotry. The syllabus for this class is available in Romans 1:27 for interested students and will be offered as a capstone for the major.
The announcement of Davis’ position elicited mixed feelings from the student body. “I have often wondered what conventions Clark is claiming to challenge,” questioned Scott Schur (’16), “Do we want to contest the convention of basic human decency like Davis
has?” In response, President David Angel stated, “Well, we either needed to challenge a convention or change the slogan. We already changed the logo last year and could not afford to change our slogan too. It was either hire Davis or get new stationery. Plus, hiring Davis was cheaper because she told us she would never accept a health insurance plan that 'promoted promiscuity and favored impropriety.'”
Professor Davis will arrive on campus in late November to begin reviewing her curriculum and interacting with students. Her office hours will be Wednesdays from 12:00-2:00 and she encourages all students to come. Professor Davis wants all students to know that if they are unable to make it to her office hours, they may go to His office hours on Sunday mornings and will get the same information.
